Frequently Asked Questions

Question:

I shot through a deer or a target and my Broadhead was found in the closed position. Did it open?

Answer:

Yes it most definitely opened. As long as the Broadhead was assembled properly it opened. It is very common to find our mechanical broadhead blades in the closed position after passing through an animal or target however this does not mean that they did not open. Our mechanical blades open on impact and remain open as they travel through the animal or target but upon exiting, the rapid deceleration of the arrow will commonly cause the blades to fold back forward into the closed position. Please see this Video link that demonstrates this.

Question:

Are your Broadheads made in the USA?

Answer:

Yes! All of our Broadheads are 100% made in the USA! This is something we are extremely proud of and don’t plan to change!

Question:

How do your broadheads perform on angled shots?

Answer:

Our Broadheads do not deflect on angled shots. The tips on all of our mechanical Broadheads protrude 5/8 of an inch in front of the mechanical blades allowing the tip to get started on a path before the mechanical blades make contact. Also the patented internal spring design allows each of our mechanical blades to independently cam back against the spring as they open, absorbing the shock of the blades opening rather than causing the arrow to deflect. Even at the steepest of angles you will not deflect with a Grim Reaper! Please see this Video demonstration.

Question:

How fast does my bow need to be to shoot your mechanical Broadheads?

Answer:

We build a variety of cut diameter and grain weights to fit any set up on the market. If you are shooting a compound bow with a draw weight of 40lb or higher and hunting whitetail size game, we have a mechanical head that will work for you. What is the difference between the Original Razortip and Razorcut SS broadheads?

Answer:

We offer our entire line of mechanical broadheads in two different tip styles. Our original Razortip which is a trocar style tip with 3 little bleeder blades designed to not only crush bone but begin cutting upon impact. The Razortip has proven itself in the field for the past 11 years and will be tough to beat! Our latest tip design is the Razorcut SS which is a solid, stainless steel, machined, cut on contact tip designed to begin instantly cutting upon impact. Both are exceptional tips for any hunting situation. Whether you choose Razortip or Razorcut SS you won’t be disappointed!

Question:

Will I get a good entrance hole with Grim Reaper mechanical Broadheads?

Answer:

Some are under the false impression that you won’t get a good entrance hole with an over the top opening mechanical head. We have seen thousands of entrance holes over the past 11 years and beg to differ! The internal spring design of Grim Reaper mechanical heads allow the blades to cam back as they open giving you not only a solid entrance hole but also using very little energy in the process of opening. This is why Grim Reapers are the #1 penetrating mechanical Broadheads on the market giving you the best opportunity for entrance and exit holes. After all, two holes are better than 1!  Watch Video

Absolutely! Being designed and built here in the west, Grim Reaper mechanical broadheads were actually designed with Elk hunting in mind. Question:

What head do you recommend for whitetail Deer?

Answer:

All of our heads will work great for whitetail deer sized game. We highly recommend you take into consideration the amount of Kinetic energy your hunting set up is producing when deciding what cut diameter will be best suited for you. The larger the cut diameter the more energy required for complete penetration. We offer cut diameters ranging from 1 1/8” up to a full 2” cut, 3 blade. Choose a cut diameter that will allow you to consistently pass through the animals you shoot. This will result in the best opportunity to quickly and humanely recover your game.
